Jean-Marie Le Pen, 96 years old, is hospitalized since the beginning of the week to carry out “analyses”, indicated this Wednesday, November 13, 2024 those around him at theAFP.

“There are ups and downs,” continued this same source, who nevertheless denied “unfounded” rumors about a supposed bedridden state of Marine Le Pen's father.

The finalist in the 2002 presidential election has seen his health deteriorate for several years. His last hospitalization was in April 2023. At the time, the founder of the National Front remained under observation for approximately two weeks after suffering a heart attack.

In 2022, Marine Le Pen's father was hospitalized for a mild form of stroke.

“Profound deterioration” of his physical and psychological state

Prosecuted in the case of the assistants of RN MEPs, his case was “disjointed” after a medical expertise had noted “a profound deterioration” in his physical and psychological state, estimating that he was not able to neither “to be present”, nor to “prepare one’s defense”.

“It is established that (Jean-Marie Le Pen) is not capable of giving consent to any act whatsoever,” Marine Le Pen indicated at the end of September, at the opening of the trial.

The latter, as well as her two sisters Marie-Caroline and Yann Le Pen, have been the beneficiaries of a “protection mandate” – a measure comparable to guardianship – since mid-February, which allows them to carry out various acts in the name of their father, alone or in concert.
