Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic finally arrives on Nov. 16 at UFC 309. Sitting atop the 13-fight card, all-time MMA great Jones makes his long-awaited first defense of the UFC heavyweight title against another future Hall of Famer, former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, at New York’s legendary Madison Square Garden.

Jones (27-1, 1 NC) returns from a near two-year layoff after an October 2023 shoulder injury derailed a first attempt at booking his title defense against Miocic. In total, Jones, 37, has not competed since defeating Ciryl Gane via first-round submission in March 2023 to capture the vacant UFC heavyweight title. A longtime former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jones is widely considered the greatest 205-pound fighter to ever lace up a pair of four-ounce gloves.

Miocic (20-4) also steps in following a long layoff. The UFC record-holder for most consecutive (3) and combined (4) heavyweight title defenses, Miocic, 42, last competed in a March 2021 knockout loss to Francis Ngannou. Miocic’s most recent win came more than four years ago, in an August 2020 title defense over Daniel Cormier.

UFC 309 kicks off with an early preliminary card at 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+. The five-fight main card airs live on ESPN+ pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET.

In the night’s co-main event, three-time Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler (23-8) abandons his multi-year pursuit of Conor McGregor to instead face off with former UFC champion Charles Oliveira (34-10, 1 NC) in a rematch of their 2021 title bout, which Oliveira won with a come-from-behind second-round knockout.
