“This behavior is unacceptable, unimaginable, intolerable”. This Tuesday morning, state services reacted after the intrusion of “four individuals, led by Rodrigue Petitot”, the leader of the RPPRAC on Monday around 8:45 p.m. (November 11) at the prefectural residence located on the Didier road in Fort-de-France.
According to the prefecture, these “forced the security cordon which protected the entrance gate of the prefectural residence, home of the prefect, while he was receiving the island's elected officials on the occasion of the visit to Martinique of the minister responsible for overseas “.
This event provoked a heated altercation between the two interlocutors.
They wanted to enter the residence building, demanding to be immediately received by the minister. The prefect intervened to deny them access. He insisted that it was unacceptable to break into a private home by force, without authorization. He recalled that any association or union could, during an official trip, request an audience by contacting the prefecture. He stressed that no request had been received and asked the intruders to leave the premises immediately.
Press release from the Prefecture of Martinique
A complaint was filed regarding these facts.
At a press conference, Jean-Noël Buffet indicated that “Yesterday's facts pose a new element which really constitutes for me the fact of questioning myself about following up on a request for an appointment which was not made.”
This does not bode well for one's ability to discuss. (…) I arrived here willing to meet everyone on the condition that there is a simple principle: a principle of respecting both meeting requests and the way of doing things. For my part, any other attitude constitutes an almost prohibitive element.
