As of this morning, the Var has been hit by heavy rain and localized thunderstorms. The first showers affected Brignoles and also had an impact in Toulon, Hyères and Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer in the morning. At the start of the afternoon, these stormy episodes will persist in the west, while regular rains will continue elsewhere under heavy skies. Météo France places the department on yellow alert for storms, rain and flooding.
Powerful gusts of wind, especially on the coast
The Var coastline is facing impressive gusts today, reaching 85 km/h around Saint-Tropez in the afternoon. This easterly wind will progress throughout the day: 60 km/h in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, 75 km/h in Toulon, and 80 km/h in Hyères. Inland, the wind force will be moderate with around 60 km/h in Puget-Ville. However, the situation is calmer in the north of the department, with only 5 km/h expected in Trigance.
Plummeting temperatures
Under these conditions, the Var temperatures are much cooler than in recent days. Early morning minimums dropped to 7°C in Trigance, 10°C in Brignoles and 14°C on the coast. In the afternoon, the mercury should remain stable around 15°C throughout the department, with 19°C for Saint-Tropez, the hottest point of the day.
