Carlos Alcaraz he lost his debut match at the ATP Finals against Casper Ruud. A 5-2 lead for the Spaniard in the second set wasn’t enough to try to straighten out the match, thanks to the Norwegian’s excellent performance but also some physical problems. In the press conference, Alcaraz spoke about his physical condition to the journalists present. “A few days before arriving here in Turin, I got sick at home. Having arrived a few days ago to train I felt good, not great but I was ready to play. But today I didn’t feel well, I had stomach problems this morning. I don’t want to say this because it might seem like an excuse. But if I’m bad, I’m bad. And that’s what happened today“.

On indoor difficulties: I don’t have much experience playing on indoor courts. I train a lot on this surface, but I don’t have many matches under my belt. I couldn’t answer. I will certainly become a good player on indoor courts too, but at the moment I still have to gain experience and play more matches on this surface.

On mental tiredness: “I think all the players are mentally tired at this point. If anyone tells you they are rested, they are lying (ride). Some players deal with this better than others, but I’m tired. Obviously there are many matches, there is a very busy calendar. When a week or a swing ends, we have two or maximum three days before playing another tournament, perhaps on the other side of the world. In any case, I think I arrived better at the end of the year.”
