First images of Mission Impossible 8 with Tom Cruise! Here is the trailer for one of the blockbuster events of 2025! – Cinema News

In May 2025, Tom Cruise will return in the 2nd part of Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning. The film will be called “Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning”. Released on May 21, 2025 in cinemas.

Almost 2 years after Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, released on July 12, 2023 (and more than 2.6 million admissions in as a result), the sequel is preparing to arrive in cinemas on May 21, 2025. To whet our appetite, distributor Paramount has just revealed the very first images of the film.

For the record, as Paramount points out, Tom Cruise wears in “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” the same outfit as the one he had during his spectacular show during the 2024 Olympic Games on August 11.

According to these first images, Mission Impossible 8, finally retitled Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning should be one of the most promising blockbusters of 2025!

Still directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the feature film saw its filming interrupted by the writers' strike and its release, initially planned for 2024, was postponed to 2025.

Tom Cruise also revealed the poster of the film on his social networks:

What will Mission Impossible 8 be about?

This is always the great mystery that surrounds each episode. Who knew the nature of the threat Tom Cruise would face in Fallout before seeing the film? Or that the star would be confronted with artificial intelligence in Dead Reckoning?

The same goes for its sequel, notably because these films are rewritten during filming. But except for one detail: its status as the second half of the story.

Warning, the rest of the text contains spoilers for Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning part 1

The viewer does not start from scratch and, now that the question of the key seems to have been resolved, the film should revolve around the quest for what it opens: the source code of the Entity, buried with the submarine which transports.

Who is Gabriel really?

The plot could thus be tighter, even if the saga likes to take us to the four corners of the world. And, here, in the past. That of Ethan and Gabriel, on which light should be shed.

Where did Luther go to hide so as not to be spotted by the Entity? Is the submarine in Alaska? What is behind Ethan's past? Will he sacrifice himself for his friends, the final and logical stage of his journey in the form of the Stations of the Cross? Are we at the end of the saga?

Why a story in two parts?

Mission Impossible 7 and 8 were initially planned to be filmed back to back. Like the Back to the Future and Matrix sequels.

If Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie had to review their filming plans due to Covid, the initial ambition remains the same. And it was confirmed by the title of episode 7, revealed at the same time as the first trailer: Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Partie 1.

Why are we fighting like this? Why are we trying to concentrate all of this into two hours? Let's cut the story in the middle and make two films

“I knew I wanted to expand the cast and give each of these characters more to do, so I knew the film would be bigger and longer than Fallouttold the director and co-writer to Collider. “At one point, I said to myself, 'Why are we fighting like this? Why are we trying to concentrate all of this into two hours? Let's cut it [l’histoire] in the middle of it and make two films.”

“That's really the reason why I wanted to have a two-part film. It's not only because the story was bigger but also because we wanted more emotion in it.”

Who stars in Mission Impossible 8?

WARNING – The segment below contains plot spoilers for “Mission Impossible 7.” Please move on if you haven't seen the film.

A Mission Impossible without Tom Cruise being unthinkable, the star will be back in the guise of Ethan Hunt. For the eighth time in just under thirty years. And with a new handful of crazy stunts, including the one he teased on video.

The only actor, besides himself, to have participated in all the episodes, Ving Rhames is also back. Just like Simon Pegg, faithful accomplice since his appearance in episode 3. And Rebecca Ferguson, free electron who completes the quartet since Rogue Nation?

Ilsa having died in the first part of Dead Reckoning, only a flashback could bring her back to life. And, due to the lack of official casting, great vagueness reigns over her presence as well as that of Pom Klementieff, whose killer Paris seemed to still be alive at the end of the film released on July 12.

As for the ghosts, Esai Morales will continue to torment Tom Cruise in the role of the evil Gabriel. The agent duo played by Shea Whigam and Greg Tarzan Davis should still be around, as should Henry Czerny, aka the troubled Eugene Kittridge. And Ethan will once again be able to count on Grace, played by Hayley Atwell.

When you see what your next mission has in store for you…

Let's also not forget Alana Mitsopolis (Vanessa Kirby), who always has her place in the plot. Marie (Mariela Garriga), seen so far in flashbacks and whom we will see again to learn more about Ethan's past. Or, to everyone's surprise, William Donloe (Rolf Saxon).

Involved despite himself in the heist of the CIA HQ at the heart of the first opus, thanks to a vomit mixed with his coffee, the character will be back. In Alaska, where will Kittridge be transferred tomorrow after this failure? The photo revealed by Christopher McQuarrie to announce his return suggests as much.

Just like this shot, in the snowby Lucy Tulugarjuk, one of the new faces in this opus. With Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham (who will be on an aircraft carrier where Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie filmed), Nick Offerman and even Holt McCallany, who will play the Secretary of Defense.

Mission Impossible 9: will there be a sequel?

For a long time, everything seemed to indicate that Mission Impossible 8 would be the last opus in the adventures of Ethan Hunt. And Christopher McQuarrie had clearly hinted as much. But the director returned to the subject at the time of the release of Dead Reckoning, claiming to already have ideas for other films.

And Tom Cruise announces, for his part, that he wants to follow the model of Harrison Ford on Indiana Jones, and make Mission Impossibles until he is 80 years old. A bluff to better surprise us or a way to make us understand that, for the star, retirement is also impossible?
