The fire ravaged 3,000 m2 of the Christmas village in this commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales, during the night from Sunday to Monday.
The fire reportedly broke out at 4:28 a.m. in the Christmas village of Barcarès (Pyrénées-Orientales), on the night of Sunday 10 to Monday 11 November 2024. The village was normally scheduled to open to the public next Saturday. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the fire, but the magic of Christmas has just taken a hit.
According to Sdis 66, the alert was given by the teams responsible for protecting the installation site. Seven wooden chalets were ravaged by the flames, as well as three maritime caissons and four refrigerated trucks. The fire was contained at 7 a.m. thanks to the intervention of 61 firefighters and the chain of command.
Although the spread of the flames was limited, the fire managed to spread over an area of 3,000 m2. The Pyrénées-Orientales firefighters shared images of the magic of Christmas going up in smoke this Monday morning:

Origin of fire still unknown
The emergency work is not finished, “a long work of clearing and cleaning is expected in order to secure the site and assess all the damage”, shares Sdis 66. For the moment, the The origin of the fire is not yet known.
