It was inaugurated in Udine the exposure “Knowledge of our mountains”which takes its title from a famous conference held in 1907 held a Venezia the geographer Olinto Marinellithen president of Friulian Alpine Societyborn in 1874 as a section of the Italian Alpine Club. And in fact the exhibition was created to celebrate the 150 years of the SAFhistorical section of Udine of the CAIborn in the wake of the annexation of Friuli to Italy in 1866 with the impulse of Quintino Sellawhich a Udine he was sent as commissioner of the Kingdom.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the monumental Hall of the Parliament of the Castle of Udineamong the masterpiece frescoes of Sixteenth, Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries of famous painters, including the Tiepolo.

They intervened Mauro Bordinpresident of Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Federico Pironecouncilor for Culture of the Municipality of Udine, Manlio Pellizongeneral vice president of Italian Alpine Club, Mauro Pascolinidelegate of Magnificent Rector of the University of Udine, Silvia Metzeltinhonorary member of Cai and writer. He did the honors Umberto Sellopresident of Friulian Alpine Societywho then guided the visit to the exhibition in his capacity as collector of memorabilia and documents of local mountaineering.

A packed audience authority, cultural personality e mountain enthusiastsincluding many members of the Italian Alpine Club arrived from all over the region, greeted with applause the cutting of the ribbon of the exhibition, which is spread over two floors of the Civic Museums. History, exploration, mountaineering and ethnography, climate changes e future prospects: the exhibition itinerary on the first floor offers possible views and readings of the mountains of today and yesterday. The installation of. stands out in the final room Emanuele Bertossiin which the artist and mountaineer brought together stones and objects collected during his climbs, in a journey that questions the mountain of tomorrow.

In the Museum of Photography instead, the historical and iconographic heritage of theAlpine Friulipartly the result of loans from institutions and private individuals and never exhibited in its entirety. Booklets from the early twentieth century of the guides, nineteenth-century membership cards e summit notebooks with famous signatures, strictly original photographs which date from 1880, geographical maps and very rare Alpine views for the time, to be compared with those of today.

Important collaborations made the installation possible, primarily for the scientific and factual contribution of theUniversity of Udinein its third mission articulation that is Friuli shipyard; for placing the Municipality of Udinebecause from Castle Hill you have the widest view of the mountains that surround the city and it is here that geographers and geologists, like Torquato Taramelli e Ardito Desiothey had the first “bird's eye” image of Eastern Alps. They also contributed Geopark of the Carnic Alpsil Friulian Speleological and Hydrological Clubil Malborghetto Ethnographic Museum and the Michele Gortani Carnic Museum of Tolmezzo. The exhibition received the support of Italian Alpine Clubfrom the Friuli Foundation and of Consortium for the Protection of Montasio Cheese. The patronage of UNESCO Dolomites Foundation, Giovanni Angelini Foundation – Mountain Studies Center, Cai Friuli Venezia Giulia e International Mountain Network Association.
