Weah in the first half and Yildiz in the second give Thiago Motta his first Turin derby. George’s son seals a great play from Cambiaso and beats Milinkovic after 18 minutes, the number 10, in his first derby as a starter on the birthday of his idol Del Piero, collects a cross from Conceiçao, launches his header all alone and closes the practice six minutes from the ninetieth minute. In the first half, a too timid Toro was unable to break through or contain a Juve who pushed, created, scored and put Pedersen and Walukiewicz in difficulty on the left. And it is from there that the first flash comes, with Koopmeiners trying to launch Yildiz but Coco’s closure is effective. Then it’s Thuram’s turn – under the eyes of his father Lilian stationed in the stands – who crosses but finds no support and this time it’s Lazaro who can clear. Juve wants to light up and understands that its left-wing chain can make the difference tonight. In the 6th minute, Cambiaso suggests again for Koopmeiners who looks centrally for Vlahovic (blocked) and shortly after Yildiz’s cross, fouled by Pedersen, worries Milinkovic-Savic quite a bit: the ball crosses the entire area but Weah doesn’t arrive in time. After 20 minutes of Juventus pushes and grenade expectations, here is Vlasic’s intuition but the team doesn’t follow him. Then Vanoli’s Toro, who never stopped shouting directions and waving his arms on the bench, tried to pierce the opponent’s wall with a pass from the goalkeeper to Ilic but once again the Granata gravitated too far from Perin to worry him.

Juve then takes advantage of it and in the 18th minute Cambiaso comes on, takes the ball and the initiative, accelerates, changes pace, leaves Pedersen and Ricci in place, then kicks: Milinkovic-Savic does what he can, dirty the shot – just enough enough to deny Vlahovic the tap in – but he doesn’t hold onto the ball which passes under his body and reaches Weah who rushes in from the right. A very simple task for the American who with the goal wide open all he has to do is push the ball into the net. Fourth goal (third in the last two weeks) in Serie A for the 24-year-old who is also celebrating his personal scoring record in a single season between Serie A and Ligue 1. Juve in this phase of the match is a mix of confidence and speed and is looking immediately the doubling: first with Koop who invents for the usual Cambiaso vertically who in the end however chooses the long range shot and makes a wrong decision and conclusion (to the disappointment of Vlahovic who had freed himself on the left); then here comes the Serbian again who gets rid of Coco, comes back, kicks but is too central and soft to worry Milinkovic. Meanwhile, Perin continues his match as a spectator, Vlasic is blocked by Kalulu in the 32nd minute and this leads to another Juventus restart which culminates with a foul by Ricci on Cambiaso, followed by a free kick from 20 metres. The same number 27 goes for the ball, it’s a pattern with Koopmeiners receiving nearby, he shoots powerfully but Coco is on the path and denies the Dutchman the second. Two minutes later it is Masina, providential, who saves on the former Atalanta. Tense spirits close to the 40th minute, due to a free foul by Gatti on Milinkovic: an uproar was then quelled by the referee and his teammates and ended with a hug between the two litigants. Before the break there was also time for two attempts by Yildiz and Thuram (blocked) and for a restart by Toro with Lazaro who launched Sanabria but Koopmeiners in retreat blocked everything.

juve-turin, the second half

The second half opens with another Turin, more vertical and proactive. However, there is a lack of concreteness such as on Lazaro’s cross which finds no teammate or on Linetty’s shot which is blocked by Kalulu. Vanoli continues to show off on the bench, his team manage with more order (Lazaro, however, was punished for a hold on Gatti, the first yellow card of the derby in the 57th minute) and Juve don’t create dangers like in the first half. Koopmeiners tries to make himself dangerous with a free kick but Coco is there, then it’s a restart from Toro who tries to worry Motta but Lazaro is supported only by Ricci and Juve in the meantime has returned. The 70th minute has just passed and Juve starts to come out on top again. First it is the Weah-Koopmeiners tandem that pierces the defense: the son of art enters the area, makes it 2-0 but the referee cancels it due to a touch with his arm. A minute later Conceicao enters the field in place of Vlahovic and the other son of art changes the ending of the match. In the 82nd minute he almost reached the top corner with his left foot (Sosa late), in the 84th minute he gave Yildiz the ball to double his lead. Tongue out, running with open arms and the derby thus closed. In the 90th minute, Sanabria’s shot saved by Perin is the last bell of the match decided by Weah and the third youngest scorer in the history of Juve in championship derbies, the 19 years and 189 days old star.
