Who better than Sébastien Simon to represent the Sablais? Born in La Roche-sur-Yon, he started sailing in Les Sables-d'Olonne and his main sponsor is Vendéen, the Dubreuil Group.
Like at home
Since the beginning of the village, the skipper has been delighted to find this popular fervor again, disappeared four years agobecause of Covid.
“It makes me happy to see this popular festival again. »
More, for three weeksthe skippers are in high demand. Being at home is therefore a real relief for the skipper.
« The bustle of the village is very energy-consuming. So going home, home, after all this partying, it's a little breath of fresh air all the same “, he confided.
An advantage in fatigue management according to Sébastien Simon:
“I know that the day before departure is always a time when we sleep very poorly because we think about lots of things… Did I think about my toothbrush, did I Do I have enough toothpaste or toilet paper? I think of my competitors, who will be in a hotel or an Airbnb, having to travel between their homes, then come back here… It's additional stress. Glad that the major event of our discipline is here, at home! »
After the misfortunes, the year of Sébastien Simon?
Unfortunately, on a sporting level, the Sablais has had a series of bad lucks for several years.
Then in fourth position in the 2020 Vendée Globe, Sébastien Simon hit an unidentified floating object and the damage, too significant, force the skipper to abandon the race.
In December 2023, he suffered an accident during the Return to Base transatlantic race.
Result : a concussion and a cervical fracture. “It was a call to order,” he believes.
From now on, Sébastien Simon no longer goes to sea without his helmet and puts it on as soon as the boat exceeds 20 knots.
Very attached to his native Vendée, he hopes to become the first Sablais skipper to win the Vendée Globe… What if, after all his misadventures, this was Sébastien Simon's year?
