The Italian Cycloweb reports that the presentation of the Giro d’Italia route has been postponed to early January. Initially, the presentation was to take place on November 12. In addition, the Giro organization RCS tries to get the best tour riders to the start.
The Giro is intended to start in Albania, but there has been uncertainty about this since the postponement of the route presentation. According to previous reports, there are two possible reasons for this. One is economic in nature. For example, Albania is said to have failed to comply with the financial agreements. The other reason has to do with political agreements. The Giro start is said to be part of a deal between Italy and Albania, in which the latter country would take in immigrants.
However, Paolo Bellino, general manager of RCS, dismissed these rumors. ‘There is no change in plans, nor any problem with Albania. The press conference in Rome has only been postponed due to a technical problem on our side.’ However, there seems to be more to it than a ‘technical problem’, because according to… Cycloweb the presentation has been postponed to early January.

This means that we can speak of a significant postponement. Cycloweb bases its claim on the meetings of the regional council of the Valle d’Aosta region. ‘The Councilor for Tourism, Sports and Trade Giulio Grosjacques, questioned by another councilor, confirmed the dates of the two stages in Valle d’Aosta with arrival in Champoluc and departure from Verrès the following day, indicating that there is currently is not an official announcement. This will logically be postponed until the presentation that was initially scheduled for November 12, but which, according to him, has been postponed to early January 2025. This date has also been confirmed to us by other employees,” the Italian cycling site said.
According to councilor Grosjacques, he has been assured by the organization of the Giro that possible changes to the route only concern the first week, so weeks two and three will remain unchanged. Cycloweb also speculates about the participation of Tadej Pogacar, Primoz Roglic, Remco Evenepoel and Jonas Vingegaard. The RCS organization would do everything it could to get them to the start. It would of course be the organization’s big dream, but it does not seem very likely. However, the riders’ teams are already aware of the route, claims Cycloweb.
