Eleventh Meeting of
Global Carrier Community Kicks off in Muscat

Muscat, 5 (ONA) — Omantel (the leading provider
of integrated telecommunication services in the Sultanate of Oman) and Zain
Omantel International “ZOI” (the Middle East premier wholesale provider) are jointly
holding the 11th annual Global Carrier Community Meeting in Muscat on 5 and 6 November
2024.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of
HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said.

As many as 900 decision-makers and representatives
of more than 200 telecom and technology companies from 70 countries are taking
part in the event, which kicked off at Al Bustan Palace Hotel.

The event spotlights Salalah’s
rapid development as a major connectivity hub in the Middle East, driven by its
strategic geographical location and Omantel’s ongoing investments in
cutting-edge technology infrastructure.

A key highlight is the
inauguration of the “SN1 Carrier Neutral Data Center”, which will play a major role
in positioning Salalah as a digital bridge between Asia, Africa, Australia, and
Europe.

Ghassan bin Khamis Al Hashar,
Chief Financial Officer at Omantel, said that the conference is an opportunity
to highlight the great achievements made by the company in wholesale business, notably
those taking place in the city of Salalah, which will become the second most
connected city by submarine cables in the region during the coming year.

Al Hashar pointed out that the
company’s strategy is based on investments in subsea cables, neutral data
centers, partnerships with leading service providers and attraction of foreign
direct investments in the technology sector.

For his part, Eng. Yasser Al
Lawati, Director of Marketing & Domestic at ZOI, said that the meeting
constitutes a valuable opportunity to contribute to the development of the
telecommunications sector worldwide. “Through its participation in this
meeting, ZOI affirms its continuous efforts to reshape the international
wholesale scene,” Al Lawati added.

The first day of the conference
included two specialized sessions. The first, run by Google, focused focus on
how the global Internet works from the perspective of submarine cable
technology and its impact on global communication.

The second session, run by Amazon,
dealt with cloud computing services and artificial intelligence (AI).

The event, which aligns with the
goals of Oman Vision 2040, highlights the Sultanate’s aspiration to become a
global leader in telecommunications technology and digital infrastructure.

Omantel continues to invest
heavily in emerging technologies, including AI, cloud solutions and cybersecurity.
The overall aim is to offer a state-of-the-art ICT solution that will drive
Oman’s future.
