The Cage is finally available on Netflix. But then, did Melvin Boomer follow special training to carry out his MMA fights?

That's it! After several months of waiting, The Cage is finally available on Netflix. Franck Gastambide's new series follows the footsteps of Taylor Keita (Melvin Boomer), a young fighter. Manhandled by life, the young man stands out when he manages to knock out one of the stars of MMA.

If many do not believe for a second in his talent and describe his feat as a stroke of luck, this courageous hero is sure of his chances. However, his path is punctuated with obstacles and he will have to hold on if he wants to overcome them.

Fortunately, he can count on several stars of the discipline to coach him. This fiction in five episodes should not only please fans of this little-known sport but also the most curious who will find a strong message in it.

Iconic MMA figures in the Cage cast

What will undoubtedly mark viewers is the formidable realism of the fights staged in the series. We tremble and hold our breath when Taylor finds himself in the Cage facing iconic MMA figures.

But then, did Melvin Boomer follow special training in order to best follow the real movements of the discipline? When questioned by us, the production replied: “There was, in fact, training with professionals in order to stick as closely as possible to reality.”

“Melvin must have gained weight”

She then specifies: “For the record, Melvin had to gain weight for this role and was followed very closely with real intensive MMA training for months. It was a real transformation.” Revelations which do not surprise us as the actor is perfectly credible in his role.

He also spoke on the set of the show Quotidien on October 31, confident that there was “six months of preparation. It was every day, even on weekends. You had to eat seven times a day and train three times a day.” At RMC Sport, Melvin Boomer says he wants to pay homage to the reality of MMA fighters: “It requires enormous rigor. Until you practice it, you can't realize it.”

He concludes: “I wanted to bring real credibility. I don’t want to disappoint the people I represent, in this case the fighters.” We therefore advise you not to miss the five episodes of the Cage available since November 8 on Netflix. You will not be disappointed!
