Absent from cinemas since 2019, the Star Wars saga will make its return. A new trilogy of George Lucas' cult work is in preparation and we already know a name that will appear in the credits. The director and screenwriter Simon Kinberg will be writing and producing the three new films, according to the American press.
Early fans of comic book films may recognize his name. Simon Kinberg made a name for himself in film as he was at the helm of the X-Men trilogypublished between 2010 and 2016, but also by writing the screenplay for Mr. & Mrs. Smithworn by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The Briton has never strayed far from the world of superheroes, he is notably producer of the film Deadpool in 2016before signing a new X-Men – X-Men : Dark Phoenix – two years later. Lately he has produced Deadpool & Wolverinereleased in theaters this summer.
The English producer, screenwriter and director has signed a contract with LucasFilm and Disney to produce and write the script for the upcoming films Star Warsaccording to information from the American media Deadline. According to this same source, we can expect three films which would be direct sequels to episodes VII, VIII and IX, therefore episodes X, XI and XII. The Deadline article, however, implies that a new original story could emerge, further removed from the Skywalker saga of the previous films. Simon Kinberg could thus rely on other productions from the same universe, like The Mandalorian or The Acolyteto write this new trilogy.
