The victims found themselves stranded while they were in a car in the town of Saint-Cyprien, according to France 3. The media specifies that no person was injured and that the three evacuated people have already been able to return home .
According to our information, around twenty pumping interventions were carried out by firefighters in the municipalities of Canet-en-Roussillon and Torreilles.
More than 120 mm of rain in one night
The Pyrénées-Orientales were hit by powerful storms during the night from Thursday to Friday. At least 253 lightning strikes were recorded locally, notably in Canet-en-Roussillon and Saint-Hippolyte, by the French Observatory of Storms and Tornadoes Keraunos.
Several municipalities were particularly affected by the rains. 123 mm of precipitation was recorded in Torreilles, 122 mm in Canet-en-Roussillon, both in the Pyrénées-Orientales, according to Météo Villes.
In Perpignan, 25 mm of rain fell overnight, according to the Info Climat website. According to local media L'Indépendant, a ford crossing, between Canet-en-Roussillon and Villelongue-de-la-Salanque, and that between Bompas and Canet-en-Roussillon, are closed.
Rain is still expected this Friday in Languedoc-Roussillon, Météo-France indicates in its bulletin for the day. “They can be quite sustained in the evening in Languedoc in particular and be accompanied by thunderstorms,” specifies the meteorological institute.
Hérault and Aude have been placed on orange alert for rain-floods and thunderstorms by Météo-France for this Friday from 6 p.m.
