Mika Godts was one of the standouts for Ajax in the first half against Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday evening. Television presenter Wytse van der Goot contributes to the half-time analysis Ziggo SporFootball legend Thierry Henry’s name comes to mind when it comes to Ajax’s winger.
Ajax leads 3-0 against Maccabi Tel Aviv halfway. The Amsterdam team’s third goal came from Godts, who clipped the ball to his right foot within the penalty area and eventually found the far corner with the inside of the foot.
During half-time, Van der Goot looks for superlatives to explain Godts’ goal and even draws a comparison with Henry, former top striker of Arsenal and the French national team, among others. “Mika Godts is starting to get a little trademark. Namely putting those balls away like that… It almost smells like Thierry Henry. Just the inside of the foot,” the presenter muses.
“He is just handy, fast, goal-oriented,” adds analyst Ronald de Boer. “And he’s just very confident right now. I first thought: he is going to pass the ball aside to Brobbey. But this shows his confidence at the moment,” said the former footballer.
