Stade Rennais is in advanced discussions with Jorge Sampaoli to entrust him with management of the team, in difficulty after several setbacks in Ligue 1.
Following a significant defeat against Auxerre (4-0) and five defeats in ten matches, the position of the current coach, Julien Stéphan, is increasingly fragile. The management of the Breton club sees Jorge Sampaoli as an ideal candidate to reverse the trend. Free since his departure from Flamengo, the South American technician knows the French championship well, having led Olympique de Marseille to qualification for the Champions League and a semi-final of the Europa Conference League. His experience in Ligue 1 could facilitate his rapid integration into Stade Rennais, allowing him to immediately understand the demands of the championship and provide immediate tactical solutions.
Advanced discussions with Sampaoli
Jorge Sampaoli is renowned for his fiery temperament and daring tactical choices. His teams are distinguished by constant pressing and high intensity of play, which could breathe new energy into Rennes. However, his demanding style and strong personality could pose adaptation challenges within the Breton club. The Argentine coach will thus have the mission of finding a balance between his high expectations and the ability to adapt of the Rennes players. Although the 64-year-old coach seems to be the favorite for the position, Stade Rennais has also studied other profiles in recent days including Patrick Vieira, Habib Beye, Niko Kovac, and Rudi Garcia. The latter, initially anticipated, benefited from his link with sports director Frédéric Massara, but the Sampaoli option ended up prevailing according to information from the daily l'Equipe.
Stade Rennais wishes to formalize the appointment of its new coach before the next match against Toulouse. The choice of Jorge Sampaoli is seen as an ambitious bet to turn around the team and return to expected performances. This potential recruitment could restore confidence in the team and satisfy the expectations of supporters. If Sampaoli takes the reins, the Breton club hopes that his impact will be immediate, allowing the club to take a new step and revive after a difficult start to the season.
