João Pinheiro was chosen to judge the Classic between Benfica and FC Porto, scheduled for next Sunday, and counting for the 11th round of the I League, as announced, this Thursday, by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
The 36-year-old referee, from the Braga association, will have Bruno Jesus and Luciano Maia as assistants and Fábio Veríssimo as fourth referee. VAR will be under the responsibility of Tiago Martins and Pedro Martins.
It is important to remember that João Pinheiro was the referee for the two games between the Eagles and Dragons in the I League in the 2023/24 season. The first ended with a 1-0 victory for Benfica, and the second with a 5-0 defeat by FC Porto.
The first Clásico of the season is scheduled for 8:45 pm next Sunday, at Estádio da Luz. Before, Sporting plays at Sp. Braga.
