✅ Demographic leap in Morocco…Learn about the numbers of the new population and families

Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit revealed that the population of Morocco reached 36 million 828 thousand and 330 people, according to the results of the census that took place last September.

According to the contents of an introductory memorandum for a draft decree ratifying the legal figures for the Kingdom’s population, this number represents an increase of 8.80 percent compared to the rate recorded during the 2014 census, by two million and 980 thousand people.

Laftit stated that the new data reflect important demographic shifts that the country has witnessed during the last decade, as the number of Moroccan families reached 9 million and 275 thousand, recording an increase of 26.82% compared to the number of families in the 2014 census.

The Minister explained that this significant increase reflects a development in the pattern of family formation, which reflects social and economic changes in Moroccan society.

Laftit also pointed out that the number of foreigners residing in the Kingdom reached 148,152 people, recording a noticeable increase of 71.86% compared to what was the situation in 2014.

This growth in the number of foreign residents reflects a development in immigration trends towards Morocco, as a result of increasing foreign investments and the country becoming a major destination for several nationalities.

It is expected that the draft decree regarding setting these new numbers will be presented to the Government Council, Thursday, for ratification and adoption as a basis for planning and evaluation of public policies.

It is expected that these data will play a pivotal role in developing development plans and determining investment priorities in infrastructure and basic services, especially with the continued demographic growth in urban areas such as Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier and Marrakesh.

The data confirm that Morocco is still witnessing changes in population distribution and the emergence of new needs that require the adaptation of public policies to keep pace with this growth.
