Argument between Dutch TV personalities not settled: chair remains empty during broadcast

Presenter René van der Gijp gave the redeeming answer on Tuesday evening just before the broadcast: according to the regular table guest, Derksen is pressing his proverbial mustache for the second evening in a row in the SBS talk show.

Runaway

Tensions between Derksen and Wilfred Genee rose so high on Monday evening that Derksen walked away on live television with the words “it’s over for me”. After that there was mainly uncertainty. During the day, Genee already hinted that he was not sure whether Derksen would be present. Talpa refused to respond substantively, which kept things tense until the last minute.

Wilfred Genee tried to build up that tension during the promo prior to the show by suggesting that Johan might still be there. But after the commercial break and the intro it became clear that they would once again have to make do without Derksen.

Empty chair

After a short intro about the American elections, the men could no longer beat around the bush: the empty chair at the head of the talk show table made everything clear. Surprisingly enough, René van der Gijp took on the role of moderator. He indicated that he realized that Wilfred reacted more strongly than usual in Monday’s broadcast and that Derksen was irritable and tired because he had already made radio for four hours that day.

Wilfred Genee then also admitted that his fuse was shorter than normal on Monday evening. “Sometimes it takes me up to here,” he stated. He did indicate that he had spoken to Derksen by telephone today. “For us, we had a good conversation, I’ll hear what he thinks tomorrow. We will see if agreements can be made.”

Gijp mainly thinks about the interests of the viewers. “We have to convince Johan that we have to finish it properly for the people who have been enjoying this program for years.”
