Less than four months after being sentenced to four years in prison for sexual assault on minors by the Rennes judicial court, Jean-Yves Prigent, former Breton kayak coach, was arrested by the gendarmes this Tuesday, November 5. The Rennes public prosecutor confirms to France Bleu the information revealed by The Parisian, Jean-Yves Prigent was taken into police custody for rape, sexual harassment, and sexual assault on minors over 15 years old.
The investigation concerns different facts, which occurred between 2005 and 2024 on the three women. Former coach charged of sexual assaults in Rennes and Cesson-Sévigné between 2005 and 2008 on minors over 15 years old, and sexual harassment a few years laterfrom 2013 to 2018 according to the public prosecutor of Rennes, Frédéric Teillet.
The rape accusations date from the last two years. Events that took place at Rennes, Vaires-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne), Bourg-Saint-Maurice (Savoie) as well as Praguein the Czech Republic.
New testimony following his trial
This custody follows a new testimony against Jean-Yves Prigent. One of the victims for whom the 70-year-old former coach has already been found guilty contacted the police again a few days after the trial. This young man, aged 16 today, explained to them that he had even more serious facts to report. According to a source close to the investigation, the witness also told investigators that he was able to give the names of at least five other victims.
During his trial last July for sexual assault on two young boys, Jean-Yves Prigent declared that these acts “do not represent me, nor fifty years of activism among young people, and that is what people will remember about me, I am well aware of it and it makes me very unhappy.” He mentioned “shame” facing what he considered himself to be “a departure from the road”.
