“America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” Trump launched Wednesday at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, flanked by his vice president, Senator JD Vance, Republican leaders and family members. He claimed victory after Fox News reported that he had defeated Democrat Kamala Harris. He himself spoke of an “astonishing political comeback” after having to leave the White House four years ago.
“I want to thank you, my friends. There are thousands of you here. But you are the largest political movement ever in this country, and perhaps worldwide. The country can now heal again. Because this country needs help. We made history for a reason. “I want to thank the American people for the great honor of allowing me to become the 47th President of the United States, just as I was the 45th President.” The crowd responded with great applause and cheers. “You have given us an unprecedentedly strong mandate. I’m going to fight for you and for your future. Every day. I will not rest until America is strong, prosperous and safe again.”
A remarkably calm Donald Trump thanked his supporters, his team and very explicitly his wife and children. He casually mentioned that she is topping the bestseller lists with her autobiography. “She works very hard to help people. And my fantastic children also helped a lot.” He called them by name, just like his children-in-law. He also said he misses his late mother-in-law.
Protecting geniuses
Then it was the turn of JD Vance “and his beautiful wife”. “Mr. President, I am proud to be traveling with you. It is the greatest political comeback in US history. Under Donald Trump’s leadership, we will also experience the greatest economic comeback.”
Trump also showed his cards. “The United States is by far the best country in the world. But we are going to control the borders better. People are only allowed to join in a legal manner.” A special role in his new cabinet is for “new star” Elon Musk. He then gave an extensive description of a rocket launch that he found extremely fascinating. “Only the US can achieve such things. (…) We have to protect our geniuses, because we don’t have that many.”
Then he praised the “hard-working Americans.” “You are leading our movement. We’re going to pay you back. We are now going to reform. In so many ways, we are going to give Americans back control of their country. They are hard-working, fantastic people.”
“No war”
Trump then talked about his ally Robert Kennedy Jr., who must help “make the US healthy again. I told him the other day ‘Bobby, let go of the oil’, we have more than Russia and other countries. China doesn’t have what we have. And we also have the most wonderful people here. All kinds of people: urban and rural, white and black, trade unionists and self-employed… We are the party of common sense. We want well-guarded borders and good education. I’m not going to start a war either. In my previous period there was no war. On the contrary, we defeated IS.”
“Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason,” he alluded to the attack he survived. Finally, he asked all Americans to rally behind him. “Let us bridge the differences. We must try to pull together again. The past four years have torn us apart. We must now work together again under the motto ‘America First’. I want a great America for all Americans: safer and stronger than ever. God bless America.”
