Polls had predicted that the Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s presence in the 2024 US presidential election could significantly influence outcomes in several key swing states, drawing votes away from Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. However, this sadly didn’t turn out to be true, with Jill Stein failing to garner many votes. The received wisdom was that Jill Stein’s advocacy in the Middle East would affect key swing states; however, at the time of writing her impact appears limited.
Michigan: Polls had suggested that Stein was leading among Muslim voters, achieving 40% support compared to Harris’s 12% and Donald Trump’s 18%. However, in the bigger picture, she didn’t make much of a dent. Donald Trump currently has 1,743,975 votes, Harris has 1,530,164 votes, Jill Stein has 18,908 votes, while RFK Jr has 16,467. At the time of writing, Jill Stein’s votes make no diffence to Trump’s win.
Wisconsin: A Marquette Law School poll conducted between September 18 and 26, 2024, indicated Stein receiving 1% support, with Harris leading Trump by 4 percentage points (48% to 44%). At the time of writing, Trump was ahead in Wisconsin by 1,439,414 votes, with Harris getting 1,333,342 votes. RFK Jr managed 14,953 votes, while Jill Stein managed 10,247 votes. At the time of writing, Jill Stein’s votes make no diffence to Trump’s win.

Pennsylvania: Aggregate polls had suggested that Harris and Trump were separated by less than 1 percentage point. On the final day, Trump led with 3,197,715 votes, while Harris had 3,032,121 votes. Jill Stein, meanwhile, managed 30,732 votes. At the time of writing, Jill Stein’s votes make no diffence to Trump’s win.
Arizona: Finally, in Arizona, Trump is also leading by 928,708 votes, while Harris has 915,838 votes. Chase Oliver of the Libertarian Party has 7,939 votes, while Jill Stein only managed 7,819. At the time of writing, Jill Stein’s votes make no diffence to Trump’s win.
Muslims for Trump?
However, a recent YouGov poll shows Trump leading Harris by 2%, despite his strong pro-Israel stance. For Arab Americans, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has become the primary issue, with Trump seen as a potential peace broker and as someone who could hold the Biden administration accountable for its perceived reversal on Gaza’s suffering. Trump has emerged as a viable alternative for those who view his anti-war rhetoric as potentially leading to peace in the region. This shift is particularly significant in Michigan, where Imam Belal Alzhuhairi endorsed Trump, describing him as the “peace candidate” and praising his commitment to ending “endless wars.”
Recently, Trump criticised Liz Cheney, branding her a “Muslim-hating warmonger keen on invading every Muslim country,” and claimed that her father, Dick Cheney, was responsible for “killing millions of Arabs.” Trump’s conservative views also attract some Muslim voters, including Mayor Amer Ghalib of Hamtramck, who opposes the Democrats’ progressive social policies, such as LGBTQ content in school curricula. Trump’s strong ties with Middle Eastern powers like Saudi Arabia and the UAE further strengthen his appeal among Arab American voters, a constituency growing increasingly influential in key battleground states like Michigan.
