The result of the vote may not be known for several hours… or even days. The fault lies in a complex vote counting and counting system.

Man arrested near Capitol
The election already promises to be tense. A man was arrested by Capitol Police near the monument, he smelled of alcohol and was carrying a torch and a flare. The Capitol was closed to the public.
Our officers just arrested a man who was stopped during our screening process at the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC). The man smelled like fuel, had a torch & a flare gun.
The CVC is closed for tours for the day, while we investigate. We will provide more information when we can. pic.twitter.com/J5geNud1h2

When will we know the first results in France?
The closing time of polling stations differs from one state to another (time zones require). The first polling stations will close their doors at 6 p.m. local time (midnight in France), while some will remain open until 1 a.m. (7 a.m. in France). The first estimates should therefore be known in France on Wednesday November 6 around 5 a.m., when the majority of offices will have closed.
Why are we talking about seven key states?
The outcome of this suspenseful election should play out in seven so-called “swing states”, where indecision is king and which can fall into one camp or the other. It is about Arizona of North Carolina of Georgia of Michigan of Nevada of the Pennsylvania a you Wisconsin .
More than 80 million voters have already voted by mail
More than 80 million voters have already expressed their choice through postal voting, from September in certain states, or early voting. Donald Trump denounced in 2020 the massive practice of postal voting, described as “electoral fraud”, the counting of which took time. The counting of ballots will follow a complex process, with each state having its own rules on the primacy given to different “types” of ballot. Delays – and related complaints – are therefore to be expected in knowing the name of Joe Biden's successor.
244 million American voters
The approximately 244 million American voters do not directly elect their president. They designate 538 electors gathered at the national level in an electoral college responsible for voting on their behalf for the future president on December 17. To be elected, a candidate must obtain the votes of at least 270 electors.
Who are the candidates in the running?
The polls are neck and neck Kamala Harris the Democratic vice-president, 60, who replaced an aging Joe Biden at the last minute this summer for the Democratic nomination, and the former Republican president, Donald Trump 78 years old, targeted by a litany of legal files and driven by a fierce desire for revenge after the presidential election which was “stolen” from him, in his words, in 2020. In addition to these two favorites, three other candidates are in the running: Chase Oliver 39 years old, for the Libertarian Party, Jill Stein 74 years old, for the Greens (“Green Party”) and the independent candidate Cornel West a 71-year-old philosopher. Kamala Harris's running mate is Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, 60, and Donald Trump has chosen Ohio Senator JD Vance, 40, for his “ticket”.
Hello and welcome to our live
The first polling stations opened their doors on Tuesday November 5, 2024 on the East Coast of the United States for a presidential election as undecided as it is historic between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump, whose outcome some observers fear will plunge a deeply polarized country into violence.
