Rescue teams continue to search for survivors on the Indonesian island of Flores after the deadly eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki, which killed at least nine people and displaced more than 2,400 residents.
The volcano erupted violently on Monday, projecting ash and lava up to six kilometers around its crater and devastating several villages. Indonesia's disaster agency reports dozens of injuries and massive destruction in six affected villages. Temporary shelters have been set up to accommodate displaced families.
Authorities warned evacuees not to return during the lull because the volcano could resume eruptions at any time.
Indonesia's volcano monitoring agency raised the volcano's alert status to the highest level and more than doubled the exclusion zone due to the increased frequency of eruptions since Monday evening.
