French passengers, notably those from Lyon and Nice, have been stuck at Tunis airport since Saturday. The airline Tunisair has not been able to repatriate them home so far.
Since Saturday November 2, 2024, hundreds of French passengers have been experiencing a real ordeal at Tunis airport, reports BFMTV. Returning from vacation turns into an endless wait for these travelers, who were supposed to reach Lyon with Tunisair. Other Nice passengers are facing the same problem, according to Nice-Morning. The airline, facing what it calls “sudden technical problems”, canceled several flights without providing an immediate solution.
The situation is particularly difficult for travelers, who include pregnant women, the elderly and young children. Caroline, one of the stranded passengers, describes a trying context to BFMTV: “We have neither water nor food. Last night, we were paid for a night in a hotel, but many stayed at the airport to have a plane.”
Towards an outcome?
The company has continued to cite different reasons to justify the delays: first, a problem with the pilots' working hours, then technical problems. Tunisair's communication was slow to respond, leaving passengers distraught. “They make us wait, but without us really knowing if we are going to leave at any point” laments Caroline.
Faced with growing outrage, Tunisair finally broke its silence in a Facebook post, where it apologized for the situation and promised emergency measures. The company claims to have rented four planes to bring back stranded passengers during the day on Tuesday. In the meantime, travelers remain clinging to the hope of a quick outcome, after several days of uncertainty and discomfort in the airport corridors.
