Scottish police responded to the death of a 74-year-old man who was run over by a double-decker bus in the city center of the Scottish capital at nightfall. Viral videos show passers-by picking up a head lying in the street.
A Halloween party turned macabre in the streets of Edinburgh (Scotland) on Saturday November 2. In the trendy Cowgate district, hundreds of revelers took over the capital’s nightlife to take part in the Halloween festivities. But some of them saw on the road what they assimilated to “a severed head”. In the wake of this discovery, Scottish Police arrived on one of the city’s busiest streets and quickly cordoned off the area, closing adjoining bars and banning traffic from neighboring streets.
Police Scotland confirmed they were called following a “serious road collision” shortly after 7:30 p.m., during which a double-decker bus allegedly violently struck a 74-year-old pedestrian, whose death was confirmed by Trisha Clark, the chief inspector.
“An isolated incident”
According to the Edinburgh Evening News witnesses confused the decapitated head with a possible decoration. “We were drinking when someone noticed the police were outside and a decapitated head had been found on the Cowgate. I almost laughed because it’s Halloween weekend and I thought it was a joke.”assured Katie, 31, at Daily Record which was in a local pub. The thirty-year-old, after leaving the bar, saw “three police cars, five officers and a small silver tent” as law enforcement cordoned off the area. “It seemed surreal”whispered the young woman to our colleagues.
An investigation was launched and Chief Inspector Trisha Clark asked internet users to “do not share” the images or videos of the scene which have gone viral on social networks, relays The Telegraph. «There has been a lot of speculation, and I would like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident and there is no risk to the general public“, she said.
