Snail operations, vehicle filtering in town: this is what awaits you this Tuesday in Toulouse. All day, Toulouse News will inform you and directly on the evolution of the situation:
11:30 a.m. – The demonstrators head towards Compans
According to our journalist on site, the demonstrators are gradually leaving Matabiau station to go in front of Uber headquarters which is located at the Mercure Hotel in Compans-Caffarelli. The 2nd procession, positioned at Toulouse airport, is also preparing to join them. Meet on site at noon.
Further disruptions on city center roads are expected, particularly on Allée Jean-Jaurès and on the boulevards.
11:03 a.m. – Towards a 3rd day of action?
A third day of action is planned in Toulouse. Soufiane even announces “a huge blockage”.
In the meantime, we will meet in front of Uber headquarters in Compans-Caffarelli at noon this Tuesday where representatives of the movement should be received.
11 a.m. – “The station and the airport, strategic points”
Among the demonstrators who remobilized for this 2nd day of action in Toulouse, there was Soufiane.
The professional explains: “It was very peaceful yesterday in front of the Uber offices, that’s why we continued for two days. At the station, we wanted to organize a strike operation. We invite colleagues who are still working to join our movement. We arrest everyone we meet. The station and the airport are strategic points to prevent others from working and so that there are as few races as possible. On the other hand, our goal is not to annoy taxis.”
10:43 a.m. – The program for the rest of the day
Around twenty demonstrators are currently mobilized near Matabiau station in Toulouse. They organize a filtering operation near the bus station.
For the rest of the day, they should take the Allée Jean-Jaurès, go up the Boulevard de Strasbourg to Compans-Caffarelli. It is here that the two processions will meet. Because like yesterday, the demonstrators are determined to make their voices heard in front of Uber headquarters, one of the platforms targeted by drivers, particularly unhappy with the prices charged for their journey.
10:20 a.m. – Access to the station blocked
The demonstrators positioned themselves at the top of Boulevard Pierre-Semard, not far from the bus station. A roadblock was installed to block access to vehicles. According to our journalist on site, some altercations took place between demonstrators and taxi drivers.
10 a.m. – The demonstrators arrived in front of the station
According to our journalist on site, the VTC drivers arrived in front of Matabiau station, blocking one of the two traffic lanes in front of the square.
9:14 a.m. – A 2nd procession sets off towards Matabiau station
For this 2nd day of mobilization of VTC drivers, the demonstrators announced that they wanted to carry out an operation at Matabiau station. A second procession is preparing to arrive on site.
9:07 a.m. – Update on traffic conditions
Radio Vinci always announces traffic difficulties on the Toulouse ring road. It still takes around thirty minutes to cross Toulouse from north to south, coming from Bordeaux and heading towards Montpellier.
In the other direction, it will take around fifteen minutes. Same travel time from Muret to reach the ring road.
8:22 a.m. – Blocking a roundabout
Protesters are organizing to block the Amsterdam roundabout, near P1 and P2 of the airport.
8:12 a.m. – Traffic jams on the ring road
Traffic has intensified on the Toulouse ring road. VTC drivers demonstrating are organizing an operation on the A621 towards Blagnac.
Radio Vinci indicates that it takes around thirty minutes to reach Toulouse north. Same thing in the other direction after the Muret toll where traffic is practically at a standstill.
7:40 a.m. – Snail operation on the ring road
In the direction of the airport, vehicles organize themselves to occupy a traffic lane on the ring road. Be careful in this area.
7:22 a.m. – Protesters heading to the airport
Just like yesterday, the VTC drivers met in the Sesquières car park, north of the Pink City. They have already headed to Toulouse-Blagnac airport. Disruptions are expected in this sector.
Just like yesterday, the airport is asking its travelers to anticipate their arrival: “due to a VTC demonstration, access to the airport could be disrupted this Tuesday, November 5 morning. Thank you for anticipating your arrival,” we can read on his site.
7:15 a.m. – Update on traffic conditions
Radio Vinci announces that the main difficulties are concentrated on the outer ring road, in the L’Union sector, north of Toulouse. Motorists will have to allow five minutes more in their journey. Traffic is also starting to pick up to the west, on the N124 near Pibrac.
6:25 a.m. – Why they are demonstrating
VTC drivers are particularly angry with reservation platforms – like Uber, of course, but also new players in the market, like Bolt – who do not, in their eyes, pay a fair price for trips.
6:20 a.m. – Operation snail to come, two sites targeted
The drivers decided to split their protest procession in two. One of the processions will head towards Toulouse airport when the other will go to Matabiau station. This could materialize by one or more simultaneous snail operations on the device.
The drivers will then organize screening operations at the airport and train station.
6:10 a.m. – The drivers returned to Sesquières
The VTC drivers have announced that they will gather in the Sesquières car park to start this second day of Action. The gathering is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m.
6:05 a.m. – Relive Monday’s mobilization day
This Monday, November 4, 2024, VTC drivers carried out several actions in Toulouse. Here’s what happened on the city’s roads.
Each site will be subject to filtering, which portends possible chaos in the city center.
