A new major development shakes the world of international boxing and exposes manipulation orchestrated by the Algerian Boxing Federation. By concealing the real sex of its “boxer”, or rather of its boxer, Imane Khelif, gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, this body not only deceived the competitors but also violated the fundamental rules of the sports ethics.
The recent disclosure of a medical report has highlighted information that can no longer be ignored: the document, obtained by a French journalist, reveals that Imane Khelif has internal testicles, a micropenis and XY chromosomesunmistakable signs of a genetic condition incompatible with women’s competitions. In addition, this report, signed by specialists from the Kremlin-Bicêtre Hospital in Paris and the Mohamed Lamine Debaghine Hospital in Algiers in June 2023, indicates the absence of a uterusthus confirming that the boxer fielded by Algeria in the women’s category does not in fact have the biological profile required to compete among women.
This scandal, far from being isolated, recalls the multiple attempts of escape by the Algerian Federation in the face of strict international regulations, highlighting a fraud strategy orchestrated to the detriment of sporting justice.
Already in 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) took steps to ban Khelif from the gold medal fight at the World Championships in New Delhi, after discovering chromosomal abnormalities. But despite this ban, the Algerian Federation did not hesitate to continue its concealment, seeking to transform a sporting fight into a institutional cheating scene.
What this affair reveals is not only a lack of transparency but also a lack of respect for the values of Olympicism and for athletes around the world who fight with honesty. Faced with such revelations, the silence or tacit complicity of international sporting bodies would be an insult to the ideals they claim to defend.
It is high time that exemplary sanctions are applied to discourage this type of cheating and restore the credibility of sport. The time has come for the Algerian Boxing Federation to answer for its actions and assume the consequences of its deceptions. The world of sport must say no to manipulation and reaffirm its commitment to fairness and competitive integrity.
