Torrential rains are now affecting the Barcelona region. They oled to cancellations or very significant delays for around fifty flights from the city’s airport, Monday, November 4, according to its website. Seventeen flights also had to be diverted. High-speed train traffic between Barcelona and Madrid was also disrupted. After placing the Barcelona region on red alert for torrential rain between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., the Spanish Meteorological Agency has reverted it to yellow. A military ship in Valencia. Arriving with 104 soldiers on board according to the Spanish Ministry of Defense, it is transporting food, water, support equipment, trucks and two helicopters to victims affected by the floods which ravaged part of the southeast of Spain, notably Valencia.

The toll will rise, according to the Spanish government. According to a latest report, at least 217 people have died: 213 in the Valencia region alone, three in Castile-la-Mancha and one in Andalusia. “There are still flooded ground floors or garages, basements and parking lots to be cleared and it is foreseeable that deceased people are in these spaces”warned the Minister of Transport.

The king and the Prime Minister face the anger of the crowd. Residents of Paiporta, a Spanish town devastated by deadly floods, angrily welcomed the King and Queen of Spain on Sunday. Furious residents attacked Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the president of the Valencia region, Carlos Mazon, who accompanied them. The sovereigns received mud on their faces and clothes, an episode undoubtedly without precedent in the history of the Spanish monarchy.
