Barcelona (EFE).- The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has issued this Monday a warning of hydrological risk and possible flooding due to the rain that has fallen in recent hours in Vallès Oriental (Barcelona), and in the Francolí river basins. , Besòs and Llobregat.
The ACA has reported that, due to the weather situation, the rains can also cause the rivers and streams that cross municipalities in other adjacent regions to suddenly rise in Vallès.
The Agency calls for “a lot of caution” in the lower section of the Llobregat River. The Sant Joan Despí gauging station recorded a flow of 115 cubic meters per second this morning, which is why it asks that access to channels, low points or river crossings be avoided.
It has launched a hydrological risk warning for the Llobregat river basin, which has exceeded the “alert” threshold in Sant Vicenç dels Horts (Barcelona).
The flow of the Llobregat between Martorell and its mouth in El Prat, he points out, “is much higher than usual and low points and channel crossings in the river may be affected,” which is why he calls for “maximum caution.”
The Agency points out that the Foix reservoir, in the Barcelona municipality of Castellet i la Gornal, continues to evacuate water having reached its maximum capacity, so it also requests caution downstream.
Regarding the Francolí River, in the south of Catalonia, it has also reached a flow much higher than usual, which is why it also calls for caution throughout its basin.
The Catalan Government asks for extreme caution
The Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia has insisted on asking citizens to exercise extreme caution, avoid approaching streams and ravines, especially in the Maresme, and to pay attention to the alerts to protect themselves, since the rains will continue to be intense and dynamic. even though the dana is coming to an end.
This was indicated by the Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, in the press conference after the meeting of the monitoring committee on the dana, headed by the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, on a Monday in which torrential rains have flooded roads and streets in Catalonia and have forced the Rodalies service to be cut and flights to be diverted from Barcelona airport, although there are no reports of personal injury.
Parlon has indicated that although the dana is coming to an end, the weather forecast points to “atmospheric instability” that throughout the week could leave Catalonia with intense rains, typical of autumn, although due to the previous accumulation of water he has insisted in the need to exercise extreme caution and be aware of the alerts.
C-32 cut off in Castelldefels and mobility controls
Traffic has also been cut off on the C-32 highway, between Castelldefels and Sant Boi, while police controls remain on the AP-7 highway in Tarragona, where mobility is restricted.
The rain has forced traffic to be cut this morning due to accumulation of water on the C-31B, in Salou, and on the TV-3454, in Deltebre, both in Tarragona, as well as roads in the municipality of Vallirana (Barcelona).
Due to subsidence in the road, the A-27 is closed in Valls, also in Tarragona, and an alternative route through the N-240 has been enabled.
The accesses to the C-58/C-55 in Castellbell i el Vilar (Barcelona), as well as the C-233 in Flix (Tarragona), have been closed due to a landslide. Alternative crossings have also been enabled on the T-723 in Batea (Tarragona) due to landslides.
Situation in Tarragona
On the other hand, the passage of the dana through Tarragona has left 150 liters of water per square meter tonight and has caused damage in some areas of the city, especially in the neighborhood of La Móra, where the canal that crosses the area and streets have been flooded and ground floors of houses and garages have been flooded and a campsite has been badly damaged.
The firefighters have had to evacuate four people, although, according to the mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, fortunately they have not had to report any personal damage, only material damage.
The La Móra canal, located below sea level, has not been able to absorb all the water from the intense rains, a situation that is not new, which is why Viñuales has announced that the council will try to find a solution to this problem. either through European or own funds.
The mayor has also referred to other parts of the city where water has accumulated, such as the lower part, where an investment of almost two million euros is planned in a collector to prevent flooding, or the Rambla de Ponent, in the neighborhood from Campclar.
Small floods at Barcelona Airport
The strong storms affecting several regions of Barcelona this Monday caused leaks and small flooding of corridors at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, where 15 plane diversions have already been made and there are widespread delays.
The Ministry of Transport and Mobility has reported that a crisis committee has been set up at the airport to monitor the impact of the rains on Monday.
In his X account, the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, has assured that “some areas of the terminals are being affected with leaks”, mainly in T1 and the parking lot.
On the networks you can also see some videos of half-flooded airport hallways.
