The toll is dramatic and could rise further. A terrible road accident occurred late Sunday afternoon in the town of Val-d'Izé near Vitré (Ille-et-Vilaine). Around 6:20 p.m., three cars collided at the intersection of departmental roads 794 and 105 in the town of the commune, we learned from the firefighters.
According to initial information, one of the vehicles involved blew a right of way before hitting a car with five people on board. The latter then hit a third vehicle before ending up on its roof. Two people, a 27-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, who were in the struck car died.
Around forty firefighters on the intervention
The three other occupants, two men and a woman in their thirties, were seriously injured and transported in absolute emergency to the Rennes University Hospital. In the two other cars, two people, a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, were more lightly injured and evacuated to hospitals in Vitré and Fougères.
An investigation was opened by the gendarmerie to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Around forty firefighters were mobilized for the intervention.
