Manchester United’s first Premier League game under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy ended in a 1-1 draw.
Manchester United and Chelsea drew 1-1 at Old Trafford, with Bruno Fernandes’ penalty cancelled out by a strike from Moises Caicedo.
For United it was a missed opportunity to build some momentum, and the team are rooted in 13th place in the Premier League.
United’s performance was pretty disjointed, yet it was also a lot better than the wretched home displays served up in the 3-0 defeats to both Liverpool and Tottenham.
Manchester United fans name man of the match
Manchester United supporters voted for the man of the match via the club app, and two players dominated the vote.
Noussair Mazraoui and Bruno Fernandes amassed around two-thirds of the vote combined, with the Moroccan winning the poll.
Mazraoui also rated highest in the United In Focus player ratings.
Here is a look at how the official voting broke down…
- Noussair Mazraoui: 37 per cent
- Bruno Fernandes: 29 per cent
- Casemiro: 9 per cent
- Alejandro Garnacho: 6 per cent
- All other players fewer than five per cent
Noussair Mazraoui looking like a bargain for United
Noussair Mazraoui was a standout player throughout the 90 minutes, and once again he was playing out of position at left-back.
It’s unclear if Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia will ever be back, but when United do have a left-back available, then Mazraoui has a strong case to displace Diogo Dalot as the first choice right-back.
Mazraoui is technically strong in all areas, hard to beat defensively, comfortable in possession, aggressive, and smart with his positional play.
For an initial cost of just £12.8 million, Mazraoui is one of the best buys you will find in the Premier League this season.
Despite United’s struggles, and early misgivings over the transfer window in general, Mazraoui has proven to be a real asset to this team.
