A pedestrian was fatally mowed down this Sunday evening in Cotentin, between Montebourg and Sainte-Mère-Eglise. Shortly after 7 p.m., on the Nationale 13, a motorist first hit the safety rail in the Cherbourg-Caen direction then a 44-ton heavy goods vehicle. The driver of the car then got out of his vehicle, crossed the central barrier on foot and was hit by another motorist in the Caen-Cherbourg direction.
Arriving quickly on site, the emergency services could only observe the death of the twenty-year-old pedestrian. A twenty-year-old driver, the one who hit the pedestrian, was transported in shock and slightly injured to Pasteur hospital in Cherbourg. As for the truck driver, aged 25, he was unhurt. Firefighters dispatched two ambulances and road emergency vehicles to the scene.
Traffic disrupted until Tuesday evening
Shortly before 9 p.m., emergency services were still on site. Traffic was severely disrupted after this fatal accident. Bison Futé indicated that the Nationale 13 was closed to traffic in the Caen-Cherbourg direction near Fresvillewith compulsory exit at Neuville-au-Plain. Diversions have also been put in place. Traffic has been reduced on the right lane in the Cherbourg-Caen direction.
