Police report
A 21-year-old man was hit by a train in Lützelflüh-Goldbach BE on Sunday morning and fatally injured. The police have started an investigation to clarify the background and the exact course of the accident.
As the Emmental-Oberaargau regional public prosecutor’s office and the Bern cantonal police announced on Sunday, the train accident was reported to the police around six in the morning. The emergency services found a lifeless person on site. An emergency doctor could only determine that the man was dead.
Collision despite emergency braking
The deceased was a young Swiss man from the canton of Bern. According to initial findings, the man was walking in the area of the railway tracks when he was hit by a train for reasons that have yet to be clarified. Despite immediately applying the emergency brakes, the train driver was unable to prevent the collision.
Rail traffic between Langnau and Burgdorf was interrupted for several hours after the accident. The care team from the canton of Bern was also deployed to look after the affected people.
