Dani Olmo had his first start since his injury in mid-September, the Spanish attacking midfielder scored a nice double in the Barça derby against Espanyol (3-1), well served for the excellent Lamine Yamal, again decisive.
Best attack in the five major championships, FC Barcelona can fully count on another X factor. If the impactful and decisive wingers, Yamal (right), Raphinha (left) and the striker, recently elected best player of the month in La Liga, continue to crash, Dani Olmo adds to this already very prolific offensive potential and fully proved it this Sunday in the Barcelona derby against Espanyol (3-1).
In 12 matches, Hansi Flick's players scored 40 goals. Nobody does better, neither Bayern Munich (2nd, with 32 goals), nor PSG (3rd, with 29 goals). Just last week, the Catalans corrected the Munich (4-1), then the Madrid enemies, during the Classico (4-0). A week, which also saw Olmo's return to competition, after his injury to the biceps femoris of his right thigh (occurred in mid-September).
The former Leipzig player, recruited this summer, had made do with short appearances in the last two matches. But this weekend, his German coach decided to start him, for the Catalan derby, against Espanyol Barcelona.
A paid choice
It only took him 12 minutes to shake the net. And in what way. Well served by a succulent outside foot from Lamine Yamal, the Spanish international cuts the trajectory from the center to the near post. The opposing goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, tries as best he can to push the ball away… which finds the crossbar, but goes in anyway.
After this opening score, it was the revelation of this Catalan team, Marc Casado who found Raphinha, with a sublime deep vertical pass. The Brazilian on fire this season, lobbed Garcia perfectly and scored a seventh goal in the last five meetings.
To top it off, Dani Olmo concluded this first half with a cross shot, outside the penalty area. Double for the Barcelona player for his first start since September 15 (4-1 victory against Girona).
