Crystal Palace were left frustrated by Wolves on Saturday evening as the two relegation-threatened sides played out a 2-2 draw.
Oliver Glasner could be seen with his head in his hands at various points throughout the 90 minutes at his side’s inability to finish chances.
Crystal Palace had 2.89 expected goals and 19 shots – however, only seven ended up being on target.
The draw leaves Crystal Palace sitting on the edge of relegation, while Wolves sit at rock bottom – with the Eagles feeling they should have won.
Eddie Nketiah has been blamed by fans for his role in the Wolves equaliser. Although ultimately it was the finishing which cost the Eagles, it is clear after today why Crystal Palace are interested in Callum Wilson.
Glasner however has had a bone to pick with VAR and Anthony Taylor.
Oliver Glasner wanted to see Craig Dawson sent off for Wolves
Speaking after the 2-2 draw, Glasner listed the things VAR got wrong and also admitted that he thought Craig Dawson should have seen red as quoted by the BBC.
“I could see it, yes. It’s a 50/50 decision. We can see how the referee whistled in the game.
“He continued many duels, he didn’t call for a foul. I think if the referee allowed it then the VAR wouldn’t have taken it back.”
Glasner explained in relation to the disallowed potential winner from Jean-Philippe Mateta, before continuing to talk about a possible red for Wolves.
“The one is the hand from Dawson. This is a decision where VAR has to intervene because it’s a clear red card. We can’t influence it but we can decide the chances we have in the moment.”
VAR had a big impact on the game for Crystal Palace
While the Eagles could easily have won this game by simply having better finishing in front of goal, VAR played a huge role in the game.
First off, a 10-man Wolves would almost certainly have crumbled here which would have given the Eagles a clear path to victory.
Additionally, it is arguable that Mateta’s disallowed goal should have counted considering it did not really look as though Daniel Munoz fouled Jose Sa.
These two decisions did change the result drastically, but Glasner needs to take accountability and get his players working night and day on their finishing.
