New Zealand international Chris Wood has moved closer to English Premier League Golden Boot leader Erling Haaland with his eighth goal of the season for Nottingham Forest.
Wood (32) opened the scoring in Forest’s 3-0 win against West Ham United, lifting Forest into third place on the EPL ladder, which is the club’s highest ranking since 1998.
The goal continued the All Whites skipper’s blistering run of form in which he has:
- Scored in his last six matches for club and country.
- Scored eight goals in his last eight outings.
- Scored eight goals in 10 EPL games this season.
- Increased his all-time tally of EPL goals to 77.
Wood’s goals also mean he has scored the same number of non-penalty goals as Manchester City’s Haaland (with 18 goals) since Nuno Espirito Santo took over as Forest manager last December.

Golden Boot race

8 — Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest)
7 — Cole Palmer (Chelsea) Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
Wood’s latest goal was a header, and he’s scored more EPL goals with his head (26) than any other Premier League player still active.
He’s fifth on the all-time list of headed goals, behind prolific scorers Peter Couch, Harry Kane, Christian Bentenke and Olivier Giroud.
Club keen to sign Wood to extended contract
UK media reports say Forest are negotiating with Wood in an effort to agree a deal keeping him at the club till the summer of 2027.
His contract is reportedly due to expire in the English summer of 2025, meaning he would become a free agent unless Forest agreed a new deal with him.
Wood would be free to start talks with alternative clubs from January 1.
