Mohamed Salah scored a wonderful goal to crown Liverpool’s uprising with a 2-1 win – today, Saturday – over Brighton & Hove Albion, and his team leads the English Premier League, two points behind its closest competitor.

Brighton started the match strongly and deservedly took the lead in the 14th minute with a powerful shot from Turkish international Ferdi Kadioglu.

Liverpool faced difficulty in creating any threat to Brighton’s goal in the first half, but they looked better in the second half and equalized through Cody Jacobo in the 69th minute, before Salah completed his team’s uprising 3 minutes later with a usual shot with his left foot into the net.

With this goal, the Egyptian star surpassed former Reds legend Robbie Faulo, and became the best scorer in Liverpool’s history in the English Premier League, with 164, and now ranks eighth on the list of all-time Premier League scorers.

Here is the list of all-time Premier League scorers:

  • Alan Shearer: 260 goals

  • Andy Cole: 187 goals
  • Sergio Aguero: 184 goals
  • Frank Lampard: 177 goals

Liverpool returns to the top

After losing its rivals Arsenal and Manchester City, Liverpool returned to the top at the expense of the defending champion, by 6 points in front of Nottingham Forest, third in the standings, and 7 points in front of Arsenal.

Bournemouth achieved a surprise 2-1 victory over defending champion Manchester City, putting an end to City’s 32-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League.

The defeat caused City – led by Pep Guardiola, who had not lost in the league since its 0-1 defeat to Aston Villa on December 6 of last year – to fall to second place in the table with 23 points after 10 matches, while Bournemouth rose under the leadership of coach Andoni. Iraola, who lost to City in 14 previous matches in the league with a total score of 45-7, moved to eighth place with 15 points after the first A victory in its history over City.

Newcastle deals a blow to Arsenal’s hopes

Alexander Isak scored an early goal from a header to lead Newcastle to a 1-0 victory over home club Arsenal, achieving its first victory in 6 Premier League matches, dealing a blow to the hopes of coach Mikel Arteta’s team in competing for the title.

Arsenal is still third with 18 points, while Newcastle advanced to eighth place with 15 points. Isak scored his third league goal this season in the 12th minute, taking advantage of a precise cross from Anthony Jordan, which the 25-year-old Swedish player headed into the net.

Thus, Arsenal loses two matches in a row away from home for the first time since May 2022.
