Former teammate of Marcelo at Fluminense and the Brazilian team, Douglas Costa came out in defense of the full-back, who had his contract terminated amicably with Fluminense this Saturday afternoon (2), after a disagreement with coach Mano Menezes, during the 2-2 draw with Grêmio last Friday (1).
With the relationship already frayed due to performances below expectations, the episode caused Marcelo to meet with the Tricolor board and the parties opted for an amicable termination.
In the post made by Fluminense on social media, announcing the amicable termination with Marcelo, Douglas commented: “Marcelo is a relic! The rest is history.”
The striker also had his contract terminated at Tricolor das Laranjeiras, in July 2024, after a poor performance with the Fluminense shirt.

Fluminense FC and Marcelo Vieira announce the termination of the contract by mutual agreement between the parties.
Trained in the youth categories, Marcelo returned to Fluminense in 2023, having participated in winning the Campeonato Carioca 2023 titles, the unprecedented Conmebol Libertadores 2023 titles and the 2024 Recopa.
The institutional and emotional ties between Fluminense and Marcelo continue to be maintained. The athlete’s name was recently immortalized in the Xerém training center stadium.
Fluminense thanks Marcelo and will continue, as always, to support his success in all his challenges.
