In the Jupiler Pro League, Standard and STVV started an interesting day of Football on Saturday afternoon. It also provided quite a spectacle between both teams. The Rouches are doing an excellent job in the rankings.
Standard scored the fewest goals of all teams this season. And so they wanted to put an end to that matter in a regional derby against STVV and score goals with attacking football.
That would eventually work to some extent. With Andi Zeqiri in a starring role for the occasion. He scored two goals for the Rouches that initially made the difference.
Zeqiri is the man for Standard
On the half hour he scored a real striker’s goal – at that point not too much had actually happened in the match. O’Neill delivered the ball wonderfully from position and Zeqiri was the finisher.
Even before half time he was able to make it 2-0 from the spot and the match seemed to be over, although that was actually not counted by the Canaries. They wanted to make something of it in the second half.
Equalizer disallowed
Thanks to a number of substitutes, this ultimately paid off, as Olivier Dumont scored a very nice tying goal against his training club. However, STVV did not get further than 2-1, although Bertaccini had an equalizer that was disallowed due to offside.
Standard climbs to a provisional shared fifth place in the standings, STVV is still in the danger zone – although the gap between the two teams is barely four points.
