FC Bayern has achieved its next clear victory in the Bundesliga. The German record champions didn’t show any weakness against Union Berlin and cemented their lead in the table with a 3-0 win. At the back there was a clean sheet for the third time in a row – and at the front Harry Kane made the difference with two goals and an assist.
Under coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern have now scored 50 goals this season – the first team in Europe’s top five leagues.
Against disciplined but largely harmless guests, English superstar Kane scored the opening goal with a penalty in the 15th minute after Michael Olise was brought down in the penalty area. Kane has converted 81 of his 92 penalties. So far he has never missed a shot in a Bayern jersey.
Shortly before half-time, Kingsley Coman added after strong preparatory work from Alphonso Davies and Kane. Davies let opponent Christopher Trimmel run into space, Kane passed his pass straight into the middle – and Coman was left blank in front of Frederik Rönnow’s goal.
Kane’s second strike came in the second half when Coman retaliated with a header assist (51′). It was preceded by a cross from Raphael Guerreiro. With the third goal the game was decided, Union concentrated even more on defense than before.
Ultimately, there was only one good chance for the Berliners for a long time. In the 33rd minute, Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who had recently been criticized a lot, was there with a strong reflex. After a shot from close range by Jordan Siebatcheu, the Bayern keeper raised his arms and directed the ball over the crossbar.
In the second half, Neuer was only challenged once more shortly before the end of the game – again he reacted strongly to a shot from Yorbe Vertessen.
Kompany took advantage of the opportunity and made a good substitution in the final phase. Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, Minjae Kim and Joao Palhinha watched the final minutes from the bench after their work was done. Kompany also sent Spanish youngster Adam Aznou onto the field for around ten minutes – it was the full-back’s first appearance with the professionals. Dayot Upamecano, who was recently injured, played through.
After nine Bundesliga matchdays, Kane has ten goals and seven assists. He scored six times in the last three Bundesliga games alone.
In the table, the Munich team are three points ahead at the top before the evening duel between RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund. RB can catch up again with a success against the Black and Yellows.
After the bitter defeat in the DFB Cup against Arminia Bielefeld, Union Berlin has suffered its second defeat within a few days.
