A day after a US Congressman sent a letter to Twitch concerning the streamer HasanAbi for antisemitism, CEO Dan Clancy has addressed the claims of hateful rhetoric on the platform. Clancy shared a press release on social media talking about antisemitism and islamophobia, hours after Twitch reportedly added a new CCL (Content Classification Label) for political discussions.
The ‘Politics and Sensitive Social Issues’ CCL aims to differentiate political livestreams from the rest, allowing viewers to completely block off the category while giving advertisers more freedom in placing ads on the website.
Dan Clancy has been dealing with accusations of hating Jewish people for a couple of weeks after H3 podcast host Ethan Klein called him out for allegedly supporting antisemitic content creators like Sneako, and Fresh and Fit. In his post on X, the Twitch CEO refuted these claims and stated:
“I want to make clear that Twitch stands firmly against hate and harassment of any form.”

While Twitch is primarily known as a video game streaming website, the Just Chatting section has grown significantly in popularity with socio-political commentators like HasanAbi and Asmongold making content reacting to relevant social and cultural issues.
Political discussions tend to be quite sensitive and recently, Twitch has been dealing with a controversy surrounding antisemitism which stemmed from complaints from podcasters such as Ethan Klein, Destniy, and Dancantstream. Dancantstream accused the platform of geo-blocking Israelis from signing up and registering for accounts on October 20.
Things have only escalated since then, with politicians getting involved. On October 30, US Congressman Ritchie Torres shared a Congressional Letter calling Twitch out for supporting antisemitism. The letter specifically pointed out things that have been said by prominent streamer HasanAbi and Dan Clancy’s supposed support for the content creator.
Dan Clancy’s statement about not tolerating any hate on Twitch appears to be a direct response to Ritchie Torres’s Congressional Letter. In his statement posted on blog.twitch.tv, Dan Clancy acknowledged the various allegations of hateful content being intentionally allowed on the platform and stated that Twitch does not condone hate of any kind including antisemitism and islamophobia.
The opening paragraph of the sentence reads:
“Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen members of the community voice concerns about how we handle potentially harmful content. There is no place on Twitch for racism, hatred, or harassment of any kind, including antisemitism and Islamophobia.”
Dan Clancy’s statement goes further into stating that the platform is made for “belonging” and claims that the views of certain streamers do not reflect the views of the platform or the CEO:
“Millions of streamers, with a wide variety of views and perspectives, spend time on Twitch. We recognize that some content, while allowed on our service, may be objectionable to some members of our community. The views shared by streamers on Twitch are not the views of Twitch nor are they my personal views.”
In related news, many streamers of Arab descent such as Frogan and CaprSunnPapi were banned last month (October) for 30 days following the Sabra tierlist incident at the 2024 TwitchCon.
