It is still uncertain whether Eric Dier and Dayot Upamecano will be able to play against Union Berlin. Coach Vincent Kompany comments on this.

Munich – When FC Bayern triumphed 4-0 in the DFB Cup against 1. FSV Mainz 05 last Wednesday, Eric Dier had to leave the pitch due to an injury. Dayot Upamecano was unable to play in the game in Mainz. Defenders Josip Stanišić, Sacha Boey and Hiroki Itō remain unavailable for action and midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović is not expected to return until next year.

Kompany: “The trend looks good for both”

Coach Vincent Kompany announced in a press conference on Friday that Upamecano and Dier may be ready for the game against Union Berlin. Because: “The trend looks good for both. Nevertheless, I will give myself until tomorrow to make a decision.”

Kompany also praised Leon Goretzka, who could step in in central defense if necessary. Goretzka “did very well against Mainz,” said the Belgian. “We have a lot of players who are very flexible. The position isn't all that important. I hope everyone is fit. But I also have trust in the other boys,” added the 38-year-old.

“Very strong”: Kompany warns against Union Berlin

With Union Berlin, the Munich team will face the current fourth-placed team in the table, who is only five points behind the record champions. “So far they are doing very well and are at the top. We definitely don’t underestimate them,” Kompany made clear. But: “The game is about us. The joy of playing has to come from us. You can see that they are very strong in defense and in counterattacks. This is a team that knows what they have to do.”

In the current Bundesliga season, Union Berlin has only conceded five goals so far, two fewer than Munich. However, they have only scored nine goals so far, while Bayern have already scored 29 goals.
