A video is circulating on X in which four men claim they are from Haiti and are staying in America for six months. They show identification cards and say that they have already voted twice in two districts of the state of Georgia. To Kamala Harris. That video is sensitive because voting multiple times is election fraud. And because every vote in swing state Georgia can make a difference. At least the polls show that it matters to some voters.

But the video is fake. This is what authority Brad Raffensperger says, the secretary of state responsible for the correct conduct of the elections in Georgia. He released a statement in which he said it was targeted disinformation, created, according to him, by Russian troll factories. In late October, a video of a person tearing up mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania circulated on social media. The electoral committee showed that it was also a Russian-made video.
Raffensperger asks X boss Elon Musk and other social media platforms to act. However, the video is still on X. People who respond that the video in question is ‘fake news’ are being criticized. “Who believes Raffensperger? You know whose side it is on.” Raffensperger and Trump were previously at odds in 2020, although they are both Republicans. A leaked phone call shows that Trump pressured Raffensperger to “find” additional votes and swing the 2020 election results in his favor.
#StopTheSteal
At a recent election rally in Arizona, Trump said he is leading in all seven swing states – which is not true – and will therefore win. Unless “large numbers of non-citizens” can vote and therefore fraud occurs. According to Trump, the only reason why he would lose. The same claim was already made in September.

The ex-president has been fueling the idea of fraud for a while. In the September 10 debate with Kamala Harris, he said there are “a lot of illegal immigrants being recruited, coming into America and trying to vote.” Even though several studies have shown that non-citizen votes are incredibly rare. On Thursday, Trump indicated in a post on social media that voter fraud is taking place in Pennsylvania. Indeed, election officials there noticed several suspicious applications with the same handwriting and signatures. That investigation is ongoing, but Trump is already confident. So far, almost every case Trump filed to overturn the election results has been dismissed.
The discourse is reminiscent of Trump’s ‘Stop The Steal’ campaign during the 2020 elections. Trump lost to Joe Biden, but according to Trump, his victory was ‘stolen’ by large-scale fraud by the Democrats. This was not proven, but in 2021 it did lead to a storming of the Capitol by his supporters. The hashtag #StopTheSteal is regularly popping up again on social media and seems to be gaining momentum.
CNN writes that only 30 percent of voters think Trump would accept a negative election result. Nearly one in five Republican voters believe Trump should annul the election results if he loses, according to a recent survey by the Public Religion Research Institute. Everything indicates that Trump will try to contest any loss.
