The Hirzelpass road between Hirzel and Horgen had been blocked since 4:45 a.m. The reason for this was a heavy transport truck that blocked both lanes. There was a transformer weighing around 160 tons in the back of the semi-trailer. While driving towards Lake Zurich, the semi-trailer suddenly braked “abruptly and automatically,” says Florian Frei, spokesman for the Zurich Cantonal Police, on site. The transformer then moved on the loading area.

It happened shortly after leaving the Enderholz forest, i.e. near the top of the pass, where accidents often occur. The cause is still unclear, but no one was injured in the incident. The transporter was traveling at a fast walking pace, says Frei.

At 9:30 a.m. the load was secured again with chains so that the transporter could drive a few hundred meters further. At the height of the Hanegg restaurant, the transformer was finally placed correctly again using a pneumatic crane. The work was complex and took several hours.

The heavy transport truck was on the pass road on the way to the Hanegg restaurant shortly before 10 a.m.
At midday, the work at the Hanegg restaurant was still in progress.

The semi-trailer then drove down to the Neubüel cantonal police traffic base in Wädenswil, where it will be examined in more detail. The actual destination of the transport trip would have been the EWZ substation in Saturdayern.

The pass road from Sihlbrugg towards Wädenswil/Horgen has been single-lane again since around 3:35 p.m. It will soon be possible to drive in the opposite direction again, according to the fire department.
