This Thursday, UD Las Palmas overcame a modest Aragonese regional team such as Ontiñena, whom they beat 0-7 in Monzón with four goals from Jaime Mata in a match in which the Gran Canaria team was much superior and had no piety.

Ontiñena started the game with very sticky individual marking, especially on the visiting forwards to make the game very uncomfortable for them, something they achieved in the first minutes of the game. UD Las Palmas could not reach the local goal with any danger.

UD Las Palmas had control of the match with the ball and with Sandro’s free kick, and approached the edge of the local area, but the accumulation of Ontiñena players near their goalkeeper prevented them from scoring a goal until the minute 19, through Mata in an individual play.

The Canarian team continued to stalk the local goal with a good chance in the 25th minute from Mata, who, alone in front of the goal, sent the ball high in full visitor control. The static attack was not the best option given the intensity with which the Ontiñena players were used in defense.

The home team on occasion had some approach to the visiting goal, but Horkas was not in any trouble throughout the first half.

Las Palmas, seeing that their rival was closing in a lot, also tried with shots from outside the area that always found a wall. Sandro and de Mata were the ones who were most encouraged to shoot throughout the first half.

In one of Ontiñena’s arrivals at the end of the first half (m.49+) Llovet was able to tie the game when he took a penalty, by the hands of Benito, which Horkas guessed.

After the break, Las Palmas increased their dominance and trapped their rival in their area, although in the last few meters they did not arrive clearly or dangerously, and limited themselves to giving hundreds of sterile passes that ended in nothing.

The efforts of the local players took its toll on them and they were giving in in all aspects. The second home of the Canaries arrived thanks to Mata again in the 68th minute and left the tie on track due to the decline of Ontiñena who already gave up, and even more so when he immediately conceded the third goal six minutes later.

UD Las Palmas was pleased in the second half, when the locals’ strength dropped and the Canarian team already experienced in the local area, scoring goals in a row and easily for the visitors: Cardona (m.74), Herzog (77 ), Mata again in ’85 and ’88, and Manu Fuster (90).
