Jesper Fredberg is no longer CEO Sports at Anderlecht. The club has appointed a sporting director with Olivier Renard (45), who comes over from MLS club CF Montréal. In Canada, Renard worked as sports director and vice-president for the last five years. The position of CEO Sports is eliminated in the club’s current structure.
In Belgium, Renard worked for clubs such as Antwerp, Mechelen and Standard. As a goalkeeper, he was active at Charleroi, Standard, KV Mechelen and Italian clubs Udinese, Napoli and Modena. ‘It’s simply quite an honour to join a club like RSC Anderlecht. I will focus on recruitment, transfer policy and the general management of the first team,’ Renard said.
So the club is not saying goodbye to Fredberg with slamming doors. The Dane therefore spoke with fine words about his stay at Anderlecht: ‘I leave the club with my head held high and a lot of pride. The club has regained stability in the last year and a half and there are solid foundations for the future. … My only disappointment is that we failed to give something back to the fans last season.’
