New York (dpa) – Heidi Klum lived up to her nickname as the “Queen of Halloween” and stepped into the spotlight as the alien ET at her famous annual party in New York. Together with her husband Tom Kaulitz (35), who wore the same outfit except for a few accessories, the German showed a glowing fingertip, like the model from Steven Spielberg’s classic 1982 film.
In addition, wrinkled, grayish skin covered the entire body of the 51-year-old in costume. Klum’s eyes and mouth were only visible through the wrinkles on the alien’s neck. According to the New York Times, which accompanied Klum during the transformation, the movements of the huge head with large blue googly eyes and a movable pink mouth were controlled remotely by an employee.
Diaper under the costume
Klum and Kaulitz spent many hours in the mask to transform into aliens. And because the disguise is so difficult to remove, Klum wore an adult diaper underneath, according to the Times: “Maybe I’ll never have to use the diaper, but at least this way I don’t have to think about it,” she said.
But she wanted to appear as ET, after all, the film was one of her favorites when she was a child. And there was another thing that attracted her to Spielberg’s aliens: “They don’t have genitals,” said Klum. “I like the whole idea that we are all the same.”
The top model, who comes from the Rhineland and lives in the USA, causes a stir every year on the traditional day with elaborate costumes. This is one of the reasons why it has achieved cult status in America. Klum has been throwing her famous Halloween party on October 31st since 2000. Her legendary spooky festival was only canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the corona pandemic.
Peacock, worm, alien
Last year, the model came into the spotlight as a larger-than-life peacock in a bright blue outfit, surrounded by ten acrobats wearing shiny green peacock feathers. There was also a huge peacock egg: husband Kaulitz was in the white shell. However, there wasn’t much to see of the Tokio Hotel guitarist. Just a small hole for the eyes, nose and mouth and two openings for the white arms.
Perhaps the strangest (and most impressive) appearance of the “Germany’s Next Top Model” presenter up to this year was as a giant worm in 2022. There was a fish hook in the thick tail end of the costume, and Kaulitz held the other end of the fishing rod scary fisherman in hand. Before that, Klum had already had herself transformed into a werewolf or a significantly older version of herself.
Party with cult status
With ample buttocks and breast prostheses as well as facial pads, she was the curvy cartoon character Jessica Rabbit in 2015. In 2018, Klum and husband Tom appeared as the ogre couple Shrek and Fiona. In 2019, makeup artists turned her into an alien zombie with tubes and organs hanging out in a ten-hour operation.
This year again, many celebrity guests came to Klum’s extraordinary party. Daughter Leni Klum wore a silver, body-hugging costume – her facial make-up was also reminiscent of an alien. Before the big celebration, Heidi Klum was given another honor: she was allowed to turn on the Halloween lights at the Empire State Building.
