The L'Equipe Channel made a very big splash this week by recovering Serie A, the best posters of which will therefore be broadcast unencrypted. Enough to make Ligue 1 followers jealous.
Invisible since the start of the season, Serie A has finally found its broadcaster in France. And the icing on the cake, it is on a free channel that lovers of Italian football will now be able to follow their favorite championship since La Chaîne L'Equipe has won the bet. A nice move from the L'Equipe group, which would almost make Ligue 1 followers jealous. And for good reason, many consumers in France regret that our championship is not broadcast unencrypted, at least a few posters. On the set of the Chaîne L'Equipe, Mahmoud Gassama reacted to this massive request.
But for the host of the Hors Jeu account on Twitch, who is also a commentator on DAZN, it would not really be profitable for Ligue 1 to broadcast its matches unencrypted. On the contrary, according to him, this would contribute to devaluing the product. “For me, Ligue 1 remains a fairly premium product. In my opinion, historically, the French championship is on encrypted channels. I consider that it is a product that must be viewed as such, it is cultural, we are used to knowing that Ligue 1 is not accessible like that. We can have magazines, but making the French championship more accessible, I’m not sure because it must remain exclusive” the journalist first told L’Equipe de Choc before continuing.
Ligue 1 in plain language, this DAZN journalist is against
“What I like about free-to-air matches is when it’s rare. When I am sometimes told at the last moment that there is a free-to-air match on that day, I find it more interesting and it reinforces the premium aspect. But if every week you send a free match, it sends the wrong message, you devalue your product by doing that” estimated Mahmoud Gassama, who is also in his role as a DAZN commentator by displaying such a position. It is in any case obvious that seeing Ligue 1 matches unencrypted in the coming years is not at all the trend, at a time when the channel which broadcasts the French championship has made the decision to withdraw from its networks social goals almost simultaneously, all of course with the aim of encouraging people to subscribe.
